Parson Russell Terrier - Dog Breed Information

The Parson Russell Terrier is a small sized terrier dog breed originated in England. The name was given to the dog after Reverend John Jack Russell. In the year 1997, it was called as the Jack Russell Terrier in America when it was recognized, and then the name was changed to its present name in the UK in the year 1999. Later the present name was continued in all the international kennel clubs.

Appearance

The Parson Russell Terrier is small in size with a strong rectangular muzzle. It has a black nose with medium sized eyes and v-shaped ears which are folded forward towards the eyes. The dog has straight and strong legs and the tail is medium in length.

The coat of the dog can be seen in smooth and rough, sometimes the coat comes in broken (between smooth and rough). Generally this dog comes in white color with tan, black or brown shadings. The height of the dog is about 12 – 14 inches (31 – 36 cm) whereas the weight is up to 14 – 18 lb (6 – 8 kg).

Behavior

This dog is said to be energetic, intelligent and obedient. The dog should be brushed weekly and make it bathe only when necessary. The rough coated dog needs hand stripping whereas the smooth and broken coated dogs need regular brushing. Check and clean the ears regularly in order to avoid the ear infections.
