Miniature Bull Terrier – Dog Breed Information

The Miniature Bull Terrier is a small sized terrier dog which is originated in England. This breed is said to have its origins from the Dalmatian, the Bulldog and the English White Terrier (extinct). It was recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club) in 1991 May 14th.

Appearance

The Miniature Bull Terrier is small in size but has a strong and muscular body. The eyes are rectangular with dark color and the ears are small and erected. The head is in oval shape (egg shaped) and the tail is horizontally carried. The coat of the dog is short, glossy, harsh and flat.

Generally, the Miniature Bull Terrier dog is seen in solid white color or in any marked color like black, red, fawn, and sometimes in tricolor with white markings.The height of this dog is said to be 10-14 inches (25-33 cm) while the weight varies from 24-33 lb (11-15kgs).

Behavior

The Miniature Bulldog is playful, friendly, courageous and stubborn. This dog is a good companion for the humans and it likes to play with the children. It is said to be courageous as it may face other big dogs without thinking about its size. So, owners have to supervise the dog properly to keep it safe from other animals.

Health Issues

This dog is healthy most of the times but may be prone to few health disorders. The common health conditions that affect these dogs are deafness, heart problems, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), Bull Terrier Hereditary Nephritis (BTHN), skin problems and lens luxation.

Make sure to maintain the health of the dog by giving him regular exercise and never over feed the dog as it may become over weight. In case of any emergency situation or unusual symptoms, immediately consult the vet and follow the instructions.

Diet

A high-quality and healthy food is recommended for this dog for its proper growth and good health. Do not over feed the dog and make sure to prepare and follow the food schedule. For drinking, use only clean water and quality milk.During the time of pregnancy, special care is recommended for the dog.

Habitat

The Miniature Bull Terrier will be good for apartment living. The only thing it need is daily exercise, so make sure to exercise the dog daily so that it can be active and energetic all the time. A fenced-yard will also suitable well for this dog as it likes to walk and run all the time and entertains the owners with its activeness.

Lifestyle

The Miniature Bull Terrier dog likes to be very active all the day and it prefers to walk long distance along with their owners. A little exercise is required daily for this dog otherwise it may become lazy and obese.

Lifecycle

On an average the Miniature Bull Terrier can give birth to 1 to 5 puppies. Few times, even it gives birth up to 9 puppies. The owners should take special care for the puppies and it is advisable to consult the vet in case of any help.

Predators

The Miniature Bull Terrier is small in size and a courageous dog, so it might possess danger from other big animals as it may pick fight with them sometimes. So, proper supervision is required from the owners and don’t let any other animal to come near the dog.

Breeding

Upon attaining the proper age, this dog should be ready for breeding and make sure to have a professional breeding so that it stays healthy and can give birth to healthy puppies.

Life Span

The average lifespan of the Miniature Bull Terrier dog is about 10 to 14 years. There are few dogs which lived up to 5 years too and so if special care is taken for the dog it may increase the dog’s life expectancy.

Grooming

This dog needs weekly brushing and occasional bathing. Brush the dog every week to keep it safe and clean from the dust. Daily brushing is needed in the shedding seasons. Check and clean the ears regularly and brush the teeth twice in a week.

Shedding
