Drentse Patrijshond is a versatile breed of dog which has been named after the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a Spaniel-hunting dog which is present in a number of almost 5,500 in the areas of Scandinavia, Belgium, Denmark and also in a few parts of North America.

Diet of Drentse Patrijshond

The diet for this kind of dogs is extensive and they require a lot of proteins and nutrients. You can provide the dog with small amounts of fruits, vegetables, dry nuts and other nutritional value food after consulting the veterinary doctor. Canned dog food, healthy meat and other dog supplements can also be given to your dog. Patrijshond drinks a lot of water throughout the day so make sure that the dog has access to clean and healthy water.

Habitat

The Drentse Patrijshond has traits similar like humans because they require warm places during winter and cool ideas when it’s hot. If your dog spends a lot of time outside makes sure that it has the right amount of water always available. On the other hand if your dog remains inside the house make sure that the place where he or she sleeps is washed often to keep away germs.

Behavior

This breed of dog is very friendly and calm. They are very loyal to its family members and obey their commands. They are not aggressive when compared to other breeds, unless they have been trifled with and are sweet with strangers as well. They are protective in nature and will try to protect the family members all the time. On the other hand, they are very energetic and not apartment dogs. You will have to take them outdoors often for exercises or playing for a long time with them.

Lifestyle

The Drentse Patrijshond is very active and friendly with its family members. They like to make friends even with other animals like cats and dogs. They have a sweet temperament and always aggressive when compared to other dogs. However, they also have very good hunting instincts which make them a favorite for Hunters to take with them. Barefoot dear sweet and friendly and on the other hand they are also aggressive with hunting instincts.

Lifecycle

A Drentse Patrijshond can live very well up to 12 to 15 years of age if you take good care of them. Give them the essential diet they have been recommended and take them for frequent medical checkups to keep them healthy for a long time. This breed of dog is very versatile and can with stand certain atmospheric changes, however is prone to fall ill when exposed to extreme temperatures.

Breeding

The healthy reproduction of this breed can only be done when both the genders are Drentse Patrijshond and they mate safely under medically induced terms. Usually a female Patrijshond gives a litter of 4-5 puppies. Therefore to breed the dog you must make sure that the reproduction process is carried out in a healthy and clinically hygiene environment to ensure no unhealthy risks.

Appearance

The dogs of this breed are muscular and look physically active. They have large hanging ears with bushy tail. The skull of a Drentse Patrijshond is flat, the body is rectangular in shape. They appear to be very friendly and sweet because they behave well with others. An average Drentse has a weight of 45-60 pounds. They have dense coat over their skin layer and the most prominent coat colour belonging to the dogs of this breed is White and Brown. They have a different energy altogether.

Health Issues

A Drentse Patrijshond health issues are similar to other breeds of dog like progressive retinal atrophy, stomatocytosis, deafness, eye problems and high sugar levels as well. Their health starts to become weak with increasing age and therefore it becomes very important that you visit a doctor frequently when they reach the age of 10-11 years. However, regular checkups after every 3-4 months will keep the dog healthy and safe from diseases.

Grooming

A Drentse Patrijshond sheds heavily and therefore it is essential that you wash the dog once or twice every week to keep the harmful germs and mites at bay. You must cut the nails and brush its teeth frequently to prevent any germs and oral problems. Since it has dense fur you might trim them as well after few weeks to keep the mites under control.

Shedding

It sheds very frequently and therefore you must make sure that their fur and body is clean all the time so that no harmful germs are allowed to spread around a hygienic and safe environment. Keeping the dog clean also helps to keep germs at bay. When they are not shedding, they are low in maintenance and only brushing every few weeks is enough.
