Appearance

The average weight of these dogs range between 5 to 9 Kg. Due to little size, their height is also low and is usually between 30 to 33 cm. The average life of these dogs is also less than other breeds. Mostly, their life span ranges between 9 to 14 years.
History
Although this breed is new and was recognized in the 20th century, yet there prototype existed centuries ago. These were called little spaniels. This breed got popularity in the reign of King Charles II. He used to love this breed so much that he made a rule to allow these dogs at every place. Even parliament was also no exception. He also used to keep 3 or 4 spaniel dogs with him wherever he used to go. This rule is still live in England nowadays. In the 20th century, American searched for these dogs in England and finally succeeded to find an identical form. In 1940, two male dogs of this breed were imported to America and this breed got proper identification in 1952. There were about a dozen dogs of this breed in America till1954. In 1992, an American club became parent club for these Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Behavior
These little dogs are very good in behavior both with children and adults. They even make friends with strangers and are often fearless to sit in their laps. They are also very intelligent and can easily be trained. They are fond of companionship and do not like to live in kennels. It is also advised to never leave these alone in the home for long time. Their eyesight and sense of smell is so good that these can be used for small hunting in open spaces.
Diet
Like all other dogs, an extreme care should be taken in feeding these dogs. Usually, these should be given high quality dry dog food two times a day. The quantity should be 1/2 to 1 cup daily. Never leave food in excess with them as it may overeat. The feeding should also be increased or decreased along with variation in their weight. Try to weigh it at times. If over-weighed, these should be given controlled food and regular exercise.
Health Issues
These dogs are usually healthy but like other breeds, these are also prone to some diseases. A little carelessness can suffer these from Mitral Valve, Syringomyelia, Hip Dysplasia, Episodic Falling, Dry Eye, and Patellar Luxation. Most of these diseases are fatal enough to claim their life. The chances of these diseases can be decreased by following a pattern of feeding and regular exercising.

Grooming
Cavaliers have medium size coating on their body which feels silky. There are more hairs on the body of an adult. There are usually four colors of these dogs available. To keep them good and elegant looking, the hairs on the body should be combed regularly. At times, they should be bathed. As these dogs mostly remain indoors, the bathing should be done after a week. However, combing the hair should be done twice or thrice a week. Further, the nails should be trimmed regularly. The excessive hairs on ears and legs should also be trimmed. Their teeth should also be brushed twice a week to keep away the bacteria. Daily brushing is most recommended form in all the dogs. Also keep a check on rashes, infections, redness of skin, and inflammation. Your routine of weekly examining the dog will enable you to trace out the problem at an initial stage.
Shedding
Shedding is not much common in this breed of dogs. These are called average shedders and, therefore, there is no need of trimming.
